Allow me to introduce our first athlete, Johnny De Los Reyes. Johnny, a native of Antioch, CA, enjoyed numerous victories in junior golf tournaments across Northern California during his early years. His exceptional talent earned him a scholarship at St. Mary's College, where he set a historic record for the lowest season scoring average in the college's history. In his senior year, he achieved an impressive 11-stroke victory in the Conference championship.
Johnny went on to secure multiple wins in professional golf events and qualified for PGA Tour Q-School - 2nd Stage on numerous occasions. Saying he's talented is an understatement. However, as the years passed and the costs of traveling and competing continued to rise, Johnny had to make tough decisions, often working in various golf courses in the Central Valley to sustain his dream.
"I've never been a full-time golfer. I've always had to worry about where my next paycheck was coming from, let alone come up with $5000 for a tournament entry fee," he shared.
There were a few instances in 2019 when Johnny, crunching the numbers in his head, told himself, "If I can win these next 3 events, I can afford Q-school this year."
And guess what? He went on to win those three events.
Johnny's ability to overcome adversity and thrive under pressure is in his DNA, a testament to his mental fortitude. Earlier this summer, faced with a similar financial challenge, Johnny almost had to pass on competing in PGA Tour Q-School this year. But thanks to a generous donation that covered his $5000 entry fee, he secured his membership on the PGA Tour Americas for the 2024 season. ⭐️
He rose to the occasion, shooting a remarkable 17- under par for a 4-day tournament, including a phenomenal third-round score of 61. Official Scorecard
His outstanding performance earned him the Medalist T1 position at the qualifying site, securing him a spot on PGA Tour Americas.
